Position Overview
The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a comprehensive optometrist with a strong interest and expertise in dry eye care to join the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. This is a full-time, academic position where the individual will provide comprehensive eye care for adult patients, including annual exams, ocular disease management, refractions, and same-day emergency care. The role focuses heavily on diagnosing and treating dry eye disease using advanced therapies and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance dry eye services. No contact lens care is required.
Department/Division Overview The Havener Eye Institute hosts a state‑of‑the‑art outpatient surgical center located in the Eye and Ear Institute building near campus. The department emphasizes excellence in patient care, education, and innovation.
Duties and Responsibilities As a faculty member, the optometrist will perform the full range of responsibilities in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. Clinical services are a component of faculty responsibilities, with or without the presence of a trainee. The faculty member will be expected to teach clinical and didactic content to medical students, residents, fellows, undergraduates, and graduate students, as well as post‑doctoral fellows. Service commitments include work at the OSUWMC facilities and other clinical sites, active participation in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions, and participation in local, regional, or national professional organizations.
Requirements
Graduate of a United States accredited School of Optometry
Passed all parts of the NBEO exam
Possess and maintain a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in the State of Ohio
Completed a residency in ocular disease or comprehensive care
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to demonstrate experience in managing dry eye disease
Training or certification in Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy and other advanced dry eye treatments is highly desirable

– Persons with titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or have obtained tenure. They hold a doctorate (PhD), MD, DO, or other terminal degree. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Those with MD, DO, or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
Research faculty (regardless of rank)
– Persons with titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. They hold a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree. They are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years, with a principal focus on research.
