Position Overview
GPI is seeking a Highway Design Project Manager for the Melville, NY office. We work in a collaborative and team‑oriented environment on transportation projects for federal, state, local, and private clients. We want to grow our management team with individuals who possess a great work ethic and a desire for self‑growth and mentorship of the next generation. Responsibilities
Guide the development of Preliminary and final Design Plans for roadway projects, including pavement restoration, ADA compliance, signing and pavement markings, Multi‑use Facilities for Pedestrians/Bicyclists, Work Zone Traffic Control design, complete streets, and drainage improvements
Coordinate with and have a general understanding of other disciplines, including structures, traffic analysis, signalization, environmental/permitting, lighting, utilities, Survey, and Right‑of‑Way acquisition
Manage project scope, schedule, budget, plans, production, and direct the engineering team as a technical and project lead
Work in a team environment and actively assist, mentor, and support junior personnel
Develop contract specifications, construction cost estimates, and prepare contract bid documents
Provide Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for engineering deliverables
Communicate effectively and proactively to address client queries
Support targeted and personalized outreach efforts for local and regional clients, while retaining and improving current client relationships
Establish client relationships and be involved with marketing and proposal development
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
New York State Professional Engineer (PE) required
12+ years of transportation/roadway design and project management experience
Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, organized, and demonstrating leadership skills with a desire for growth
Proficiency and experience utilizing software applications (MicroStation, Open Roads Design, Civil 3D) with minimal guidance
Knowledge of NYSDOT’s Locally Administered Federal Aid project process a plus
Experience working with NYSDOT Regions 10 and 11 a plus
Requirements
Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR)
Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in English
Basic computer skills; ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less
Able to wear required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
