Role Summary Location: Quarterly travel to Miami
The External Marketing Director will be responsible for shaping our public presence and positioning within the energy sector. This role requires someone with deep industry experience, strong relationships (or working knowledge) of energy‑related media outlets, and a strategic mindset for telling our story in compelling, creative, and consistent ways. They will own our external marketing strategy—from PR and content to tradeshows and thought leadership—and ensure our brand and people are showcased authentically to customers, partners, and key industry audiences. This person will also manage the implementation, organization, and distribution of marketing materials across departments, ensuring teams have what they need to communicate effectively and consistently.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Positioning & External Marketing Leadership – Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for how the company positions itself within the energy industry. Identify and define core narratives that differentiate the company and resonate with customers, partners, and media. Ensure all external content and communications are aligned with company goals, tone, and brand identity.
Industry‑Focused Public Relations & Media Engagement – Build and maintain relationships with energy‑focused journalists, publications, and media outlets. Drive PR strategy including story pitching, press announcements, media briefings, and interviews. Develop a PR campaign to support the company’s product launch and ongoing milestones. Secure speaking opportunities, industry panels, articles, and conference features.
Content Creation & Thought Leadership – Create or oversee the creation of high‑quality, thoughtful, and creative content that highlights our brand, vision, and team. Produce engaging materials such as articles, blogs, op‑eds, videos, social posts, and long‑form content. Collaborate with leadership to craft thought‑leadership pieces that reflect industry trends and company expertise.
Marketing Materials Implementation & Departmental Support – Manage the implementation, organization, and distribution of marketing materials across sales, engineering, product, executive. Support teams in accessing and utilizing templates, presentations, one‑pagers, case studies, and other collateral. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure materials are current, accurate, and aligned with messaging strategy. Assist departments in deploying marketing assets effectively for customers, partners, and events.
Social Media & Brand Storytelling – Lead strategy and execution across platforms such as LinkedIn and relevant energy‑sector communities. Develop content that showcases our people and culture in a way that aligns with our mission and values. Identify opportunities for podcast appearances, interviews, and digital‑hosted industry conversations.
Event, Tradeshow & Sales Support – Lead planning and execution for all tradeshows, conferences, and customer‑facing events. Coordinate with sales to ensure external marketing assets support pipeline and customer engagement. Produce or oversee creation of templates, presentations, one‑pagers, and other collateral.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Work closely with sales, engineering, and product teams to ensure marketing materials accurately reflect technical capabilities and customer needs. Manage internal content review processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Qualifications
7+ years in external marketing, PR, or communications, preferably within the energy, cleantech, storage, renewables, or related sectors.
Established relationships with—or strong familiarity with—energy and climate media outlets.
Proven ability to develop and execute PR strategies and launch campaigns.
Exceptional writing and storytelling skills; able to translate complex topics into compelling narratives.
Creative and thoughtful content creator with an eye for brand consistency.
Strong event management and sales‑support experience.
Demonstrated ability to work cross‑functionally in a technical or engineering‑driven environment.
