Position Overview IPPOLITA is seeking an experienced and visionary
Director of Design
to lead our in-house design team in New York City. This role is central to driving the creative direction of the brand, working closely with
Ippolita Rostagno , the Founder and Creative Director, to translate her artistic vision into cohesive, innovative, and commercially successful jewelry collections.
The ideal candidate is a creative leader with a refined aesthetic sensibility, deep knowledge of fine jewelry design and production, and proven experience managing and inspiring design teams. This position is fully on-site at our NYC studio to foster close collaboration with the creative, merchandising, and product development teams.
Key Responsibilities
Partner directly with
Ippolita Rostagno
to evolve and execute the creative vision of the brand across all jewelry collections.
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of designers, ensuring design excellence, innovation, and consistency with IPPOLITA’s brand identity.
Oversee the full design process from concept ideation and sketching through final design approval, ensuring timely delivery of seasonal and capsule collections.
Translate artistic inspiration, mood boards, and trend insights into commercially viable designs while maintaining IPPOLITA’s distinctive aesthetic.
Collaborate closely with Product Development, Merchandising, and Marketing to align design intent with business strategy, production feasibility, and storytelling.
Ensure that materials, craftsmanship, and detailing uphold IPPOLITA’s standards of quality and luxury.
Stay informed of design trends, cultural movements, and consumer insights that can inspire innovation within the brand.
Support cross-functional initiatives including special projects, collaborations, and one-of-a-kind designs for editorial and celebrity clients.
Qualifications
10+ years of professional experience in fine or luxury jewelry design, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
Bachelor’s degree in Jewelry Design, Fine Arts, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Exceptional creative vision and strong understanding of form, proportion, and materials, especially in precious metals and gemstones.
Deep familiarity with the jewelry development process—from sketch to sample to production.
Proven ability to lead a creative team and foster an inspiring, collaborative environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to present ideas effectively to cross-functional partners and executive leadership.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to balance artistry with commercial awareness.
