Position Summary:
Olney Theatre Center for the Arts, one of the DMV’s most exciting theater companies, is seeking a Digital Media Manager to tell our story online. Olney Theatre Center for the Arts produces and curates theatrical performances for the diverse audiences in our community, and educates, learns from, supports, and inspires a more inclusive generation of theater-makers. We are seeking a Digital Media Manager to create and coordinate online messaging through our website, app, and social media accounts. The successful candidate will join an award‑winning regional theatre that emphasizes artistic rigor, prioritizes equity, diversity, inclusion, and access; and places collaboration at the center of our work.
Responsibilities:
Tell the story of Olney Theatre Center through online content in ways that attract new audiences and deepen the connection with existing audiences.
Create, maintain, and supervise the execution of a social media calendar that balances marketing and sales priorities with community engagement and keeps a consistent organizational voice. Respond to comments, tags, and messages.
Create additional digital content for Olney Theatre’s different operations including advancement, community engagement, special events, company management, education, and others. You will also be central to the important storytelling of Olney Theatre’s capital campaign: Staging the Future, a campaign to transform Olney Theatre Center, as well as other similar projects.
Maintain Olney Theatre’s website with regular updates and keep all pages current.
Create and optimise Olney Theatre Center’s email campaigns to promote current and upcoming performances, educational programs, and fundraising objectives.
Drive Olney to innovate on existing and emerging social platforms and be able to enhance the theatre’s unique POV on each.
Coordinate with contracted videographers for B‑roll and archival recordings. Maintain a library of B‑roll and distribute as necessary.
Report on the effectiveness of social media campaigns using monitoring services and platform‑generated results.
Requirements:
Experience creating videos from 3 seconds to 2 minutes in length. Must submit a demo reel or links to at least 3 work samples.
An Instagram or TikTok account that communicates your personal narrative through visuals that are clever, composed and appealing.
Familiarity with website content management systems using a WYSIWYG editor. Knowledge of HTML and CSS is a plus.
A list of arts organizations or companies that you think are creating the most compelling content on social media and the ambition to compete with the best of them.
The ability to adopt and cultivate Olney Theatre Center’s organizational voice, which is friendly, rigorous in its artistry, and accessible.
The desire to work collaboratively, around creative people who treat each other with respect and professionalism.
An ability to carry out a concept from start to completion, on your own, and as a coordinator of talent and technical staff.
A proven ability to meet deadlines.
A talent for juggling multiple creative projects and switching easily between decisions for each.
Exceptional computer skills. Competent knowledge of the following software applications is desired: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro (or other video editing software). Experience with Wordfly, MailChimp, Constant Contact or similar email program.
Requires 1‑3 years of experience in digital media, preferably for the arts or a similar nonprofit/mission‑based organization. ABA/BFA degree is not required, but useful.
