Professor, Creative Writing Program, College of Arts & Sciences

Boston University seeks a fiction writer of national/international stature to teach in its renowned MFA Program, including recruitment and mentoring of MFA fiction writers, occasionally teach undergraduates, and direct the Creative Writing Program (CWP). The successful candidate will also be considered for appointment to the Andrew W. Mellon Professorship in the Humanities, at the rank of Full Professor, with tenure. Salary range: $150,000.00-$220,000.00.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in the MFA Program, including recruitment and mentoring of MFA fiction writers.
  • Occasionally teach undergraduate courses.
  • Direct the Creative Writing Program (CWP) and administer program activities.
  • Publish in fiction (short fiction, novel) and contribute to scholarly and creative output.
  • Participate in institutional and academic life.

Qualifications

  • Primary expertise and significant publications in fiction (short fiction, novel) in English.
  • Teaching and publication expertise in a second genre (e.g., Creative Nonfiction) or Literary Translation is a plus.
  • Administrative experience required for directorship of the CWP.
  • National/international stature and proven record of scholarship.
