Overview Pluto TV is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to drive the development and enhancement of the application services powering our Media Asset Management (MAM) ecosystem. The ideal candidate is a deeply hands‑on engineer with extensive experience in Java, JavaScript, Node.js, React, and modern cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP. Strong technical leadership skills and the ability to guide high‑performing engineering teams are essential. Familiarity with Oracle Cloud is a plus. This is a true technical leadership position; senior engineers and aspiring leads are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Provide full‑stack technical leadership in building a next‑generation, advanced media asset management platform supporting our media operation and programming partners.
Lead and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring delivery of sprint commitments with consistency, quality, and accountability. Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce engineering best practices, standards, and processes.
Translate product requirements into clear technical specifications and identify opportunities to enhance existing systems and workflows.
Investigate and resolve production issues quickly and effectively to maintain platform stability.
Collaborate closely with Product, Program Management, and QA teams to drive alignment and successful execution.
Guide realistic LOE (Level of Effort) discussions during the planning, ensuring accurate forecasting that accounts for risks, dependencies, and potential setbacks.
Basic Qualifications
Highly hands‑on developer and technical leader with expertise in Java, Node.js, JavaScript and related technologies.
Experience building or integrating AI/ML‑powered services, especially within media processing, metadata enrichment, or automation workflows.
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
4+ years building application services using Java, Node.js, Express with strong experience with workflow orchestration tools like Camunda, Orkes, or Termporal.
3+ years developing scalable, performant, and responsive web applications.
2+ years of technical leadership and people‑management experience, ideally on teams of 7+ engineers.
3+ years building and deploying applications on AWS or GCP.
Additional Qualifications
Excellent problem‑solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
VOD/streaming experience is strongly preferred.
Highly technical engineering managers are encouraged to apply.
Pay and Benefits Hiring Salary Range:
$139,000.00 - $190,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program, and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
