Assistant Communications Coordinator Location: Towson, MD – Corporate headquarters, The Whiting‑Turner Contracting Company. This role partners with content contributors across the company to plan, develop and publish articles and updates that strengthen our corporate culture and keep employees informed on our intranet. The role is hands‑on with storytelling, editing, and light web/graphic support, ensuring content is accurate, engaging and easy to read for internal audiences. Social media is not part of this role in any capacity.

Responsibilities

Research, draft and publish compelling intranet articles (e.g., project highlights, employee spotlights, heritage/history features) that increase engagement and reinforce company values.

Edit and proofread submissions to ensure clarity, consistency, accuracy and adherence to AP Style.

Manage multiple content requests and deadlines, coordinating with different groups and leadership to gather facts and approvals.

Provide light graphics and web design support for intranet pages and articles (e.g., images, simple layouts) to improve readability and visual appeal using SharePoint.

Partner with site owners to maintain article templates, page structures and basic permissions in SharePoint (experience preferred; training provided).

Brainstorm and pitch new content ideas, series and campaigns aligned to corporate culture and internal communications priorities.

Required Skills

A bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related fields.

Demonstrated excellent writing, editing and proofreading abilities; familiarity with AP Style required.

Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work with multiple personas.

Proven organizational skills and time management to meet concurrent deadlines.

Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint).

Adobe Creative Cloud experience.

Salary The Company’s salary ranges are dependent on a number of factors including but not limited to role, level and location. The annual base salary range listed is subject to change at any time, in the Company’s discretion, and does not alter in any way the at‑will nature of the employment relationship. This salary range is for Maryland only.
