Minimum of eight years of professional journalism experience with editing responsibilities.
Ability to work 5 days/week, 6am-2pm weekdays and 1 day/weekend.
Proven leadership experience managing reporters or editorial teams in a fast-paced environment.
Strong record of breaking news, high-volume content and shaping coverage across multiple beats.
Deep knowledge of Los Angeles and California news, culture, and politics.
Excellent news judgement, copy editing, and headline writing skills.
Deputy News Editor Responsibilities
Lead daily news coverage across Los Angeles and California with a focus on high-impact stories.
Oversee breaking news and enterprise reporters, providing direction and mentorship.
Make timely editorial decisions under pressure to prioritize coverage.
Develop fresh story angles and build strong sources across key sectors.
Collaborate with audience, photo, video, and social teams to maximize reach.
