Deputy News Editor Requirements

• Minimum of eight years of professional journalism experience with editing responsibilities.
• Ability to work 5 days/week, 6am-2pm weekdays and 1 day/weekend.
• Proven leadership experience managing reporters or editorial teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong record of breaking news, high-volume content and shaping coverage across multiple beats.
• Deep knowledge of Los Angeles and California news, culture, and politics.
• Excellent news judgement, copy editing, and headline writing skills.

Deputy News Editor Responsibilities

• Lead daily news coverage across Los Angeles and California with a focus on high-impact stories.
• Oversee breaking news and enterprise reporters, providing direction and mentorship.
