Job Summary Harvard Education Press (HEP) is a mission‑driven, independent, university press affiliated with the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Our mission is to provide practitioners and policymakers with the knowledge, tools, and information they need to understand and address the educational issues facing our society today and tomorrow. As a forum for the variety of thought in the field, we drive the conversation about education. The Marketing Specialist is responsible for executing marketing efforts that drive brand awareness, audience engagement, and revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities Digital Marketing & Analytics (30%)
Develop and execute email marketing campaigns targeting unique audiences and sales goals using marketing automation tools
Assume lead responsibility for marketing planning for a selection of titles each season
Collaborate to develop visually compelling marketing materials
Develop and track key marketing metrics and prepare regular performance reports
Monitor, analyze, and optimize campaign performance using analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Marketing Cloud)
Event Marketing & Partnership Development (30%)
Coordinate promotional events, webinars, and virtual engagements
Manage conference marketing materials, booth displays, and promotional giveaways
Manage and build relationships with HGSE key partners to support marketing efforts
Build relationships with industry influencers, media contacts, and thought leaders
Develop partnerships with industry organizations, educational institutions, and complementary brands
Author Relations, Marketing & Content Partnership (25%)
Build and maintain strong relationships with authors, serving as the primary marketing contact from manuscript to post‑publication
Collaborate with authors on marketing strategies, press outreach, promotional opportunities, and content development to support blogs, newsletters, case studies, and thought leadership pieces
Support author events, book launches, webinars, and speaking engagements
Work with authors to develop compelling marketing materials, including author bios, book descriptions, blurbs, media plans, and promotional content
Manage author questionnaires and gather marketing intelligence for campaign development
Project Management & Operations (15%)
Manage marketing project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation
Develop communication strategy to keep all parties informed of projects
Coordinate with external vendors including designers, copywriters, and agencies
Leverage automation to improve processes and outcomes, documenting best practices and contributing to process improvements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, journalism, or related field, or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 5 years’ work‑related experience in marketing, advertising, or communications
Marketing Automation: experience with platforms like Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, or Constant Contact
Design Software: previous experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools
CRM Systems: familiarity with Salesforce or similar customer relationship management platforms
Event Management: experience planning and executing marketing events and conferences
Occasional travel as needed
Ability to work overtime, including nights and weekends, when needed

Additional Qualifications and Skills
Analytics: proficiency with Google Analytics and ability to interpret marketing performance data
Project Management: strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
SEO/SEM: understanding of search engine optimization and digital advertising best practices
Experience with proven results in marketing, advertising, or communications
Additional Information
Standard hours/schedule: 35 hours per week
Compensation range: $75,000 – $81,000, commensurate with experience
Visa sponsorship: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position

When not at a Harvard‑registered state, employees must comply with the University’s policy on employment outside of Massachusetts.
