About the Team

The Premium Design team defines the gold standard for Capital One’s high‑spender customer experience ecosystem. Our work centers on creating highly useful, personalized, and high‑impact products. This role is essential for driving the vision and crafting exceptional, end‑to‑end experiences that evolve and enhance the customer journey, delivering best‑in‑class card experiences and lifestyle benefits. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate closely with design craft leads, designers, and cross‑functional partners to push creative boundaries while ensuring both significant business impact and compelling customer value.

Role Expectations

  • Product Design Expertise: Demonstrate a high degree of skill in product design, leveraging a variety of skills across interaction, visual and service design; inform the use of appropriate tools, platforms, frameworks and design systems; create artifacts that may include journey maps, blueprints, high‑fidelity designs and prototypes.
  • Leadership: Lead design projects, directing and delegating work for junior team members, building strong partnerships with stakeholders, and mentoring to mature the overall product design practice at Capital One.
  • Human‑Centered: Navigate the needs of partners and stakeholders, factor in data, research insights, scalability and tech constraints, and ensure customer‑centered solutions and inclusive design.
  • Business‑Focused: Apply insights on customers, competitors and market trends to shape a shared point of view for your team, partners and stakeholders.
  • Problem‑Solving: Use knowledge of tech, data and emerging technologies to inform work and help the cross‑functional team move faster while navigating technical limitations.
  • Collaboration: Foster partnerships across lines of business and the organization to bridge gaps and drive product strategy.
  • Communication: Present work across levels using a human‑centered approach that integrates design frameworks, data and research insights to influence strategic decision‑making at senior levels.

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating leadership, process, results and impact.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in a Product Design role.
  • At least 5 years of experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of experience in a Product Design role.
  • At least 6 years of experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • Experience working with and contributing to an established design system.
  • Experience collaborating with product, tech and business partners.
  • Experience leading design projects or teams.
  • Experience working in heavily regulated, data‑heavy problem spaces.

Salary

  • Chicago, IL: $144,000 - $164,400
  • McLean, VA: $158,400 - $180,800
  • New York, NY: $172,800 - $197,200
  • Richmond, VA: $144,000 - $164,400

Compensation and Benefits

This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Capital One offers a comprehensive, competitive, and inclusive set of health, financial and other benefits that support your total well‑being.
