WSP is currently initiating a search for an

Early Career Substation Civil Designer

for our

Freeport, Maine

office. The following locations will also be considered: Augusta, ME; Foxborough, MA; Syracuse, NY; Ann Arbor, MI; and Columbus, OH. Be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Northeast Civil/Structural Substation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.

All aspects of electrical civil design including permitting support, site design, foundation design, structure design, and control building design.

The successful candidate will be responsible for learning, understanding, and implementing CAD knowledge; learning client standards, practices, and procedures to ensure that work produced conforms to the client's standards and expectations; being responsible for knowing and following POWER's standards, procedures, and processes; collaborating on design issues; and seeking guidance from those with more experience.

Preparation of drawing packages to satisfy client and code requirements.

Required Qualifications

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

0-2 years civil design/drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, preferably in an engineering work environment.

Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently.

Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.

The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with other team members.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

Associates/technical degree in an accredited drafting program, or sufficient industry experience.

Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV).

Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D or Microstation Open-Roads (In-Roads).

Experience with Autodesk Raster Design or Bentley Descartes.

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Good background with mathematics.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $41,000-$67,800
