Job Responsibilities
Perform inspection duties in areas such as pavement markings, guardrail, cable rail, encroachment permits, and surveying.
Ensure all work complies with applicable contracts, plans, standards, and specifications (asphalt, concrete, erosion control, and earthwork).
Monitor work zones as a certified Work Zone Inspector to ensure traffic control devices are installed and maintained in accordance with SCDOT and MUTCD standards; notify the contractor promptly of any deficiencies or safety issues and ensure corrections.
Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly construction and office reports, forms, and logs.
Coordinate with utility companies to ensure timely relocation of utilities on assigned projects.
Ensure minimum sampling and testing requirements are met and that all required documentation is submitted per Department specifications.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician‑related experience; or equivalent.
Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
Physical Requirements The physical demands for this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods. Duty may require occasional travel, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. The role involves driving, walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and exposed to natural environmental hazards. The candidate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Tasks may require work outside normal hours, especially during inclement weather or departmental emergencies. The position may require night time, weekend hours, or overtime during peak construction seasons.
