Job Responsibilities
Maintains files and keeps all encroachment permits updated. Logs all permits in the computer Encroachment permit program before filing. Assists with drawings and completion of permits when necessary. Re-inspects work upon completion of rejects to make sure all work is in compliance with policies and specifications of construction and utility manuals. Assists in conducting field inspections on contracts or permits requiring a firm understanding of technical aspects, including traffic control, concrete, asphalt, earthwork, environmental and safety procedures. Stays in constant contact with utility companies, engineering firms, private individuals, and contractors; and is in daily contact with landowners and surveyors, looking up rights-of-way and special provisions. Assists in inspections for moderate-level contracts such as roadway mowing, vegetation or tree removal, and street sweeping where field measurements for pavement are required. Meets contractors for on-site inspections. Assists in obtaining information necessary to prepare reports required for project development, including but not limited to, assisting permit applicants in submittal process, and calculating estimates for quantities of moderate-level maintenance and district contracts. Takes the appropriate actions to maintain and keep right-of-way clear of illegal encroachments. Assists in verifying status of location and description of highway system additions. Assists maintenance forces with required routine maintenance inspections and during emergency and/or hazardous weather operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
