Summary Plans for, delivers, documents and evaluates nursing care of patients in an assigned area in terms of their individual needs, according to provider’s orders and approved nursing standards. Directs activities of assigned nursing personnel, observes, assesses and reports on patient condition, and maintains accurate documentation of care. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing school (or a program seeking accreditation).
Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Ohio.
Current AHA Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification or obtaining within 90 days of hire.
Thorough knowledge of nursing theory and practice, including biological, physical, psychosocial, and medical sciences and their applications.
Knowledge of the use and care of instruments, equipment, and supplies related to nursing services or ambulatory medical practice.
Understanding of the theory and principles of medical asepsis.
Ability to maintain positive working relationships with other employees and medical staff.
High degree of physical coordination and finger-hand dexterity.
PRN and Float Staff must have a minimum of one year (or specific clinical unit requirement) of recent experience in the area of clinical interest.
Must acquire, within the defined placement period, all unit-specific competencies (see list below).
Required certifications:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – AAP certified
Preferred: BSN and certifications such as.
Specific unit experiences (if applicable):
Operating Room: One year of OR experience; Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).
Post Procedure Care Unit: One year PACU or critical care experience.
Pediatric Clinic: Two years of pediatric experience.
Psychiatry: One year of prior psychiatric experience.
Radiology: Five years of critical care experience and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab: Two years of prior Cardiac-Pulmonary Nursing experience.
TB Clinic: Public Health or TB experience, excellent organizational and communication skills, prior supervisory or project management experience.
Physical Requirements
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day; may need to sit or stand for extended periods.
Visual and hearing within normal ranges with or without correction.
Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance and push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.
Exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids, chemicals, and cleaning products.
