Visit Seattle is a private, non-profit destination marketing organization (DMO) serving Seattle and King County. We exist to responsibly grow the visitor economy for the benefit of the community.
About the Role We are seeking a Communications Coordinator to join our talented team of hospitality professionals who promote the Seattle area as the best destination for leisure and international travel, meetings and conventions. The Communications Coordinator must have a passion for collaboration, the ability to anticipate needs, and a keen eye for details.
The Communications Coordinator will work closely with a team consisting of Visit Seattle’s Senior Director of Communications and Public Relations; the Corporate Communications Senior Manager; the Public Affairs Manager; and the Public Relations Managers and Specialist to provide administrative support in the daily operations of the Communications Team at Visit Seattle.
Candidates must have 1-2 years of administrative experience. Candidates with backgrounds in communications (public relations agency, newsroom, etc) preferred but not required. This role is based in Seattle and required to be in the office.
The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, be highly detail-oriented, and able to juggle several things at once, all while providing consistently friendly service to everyone who comes to them for assistance.
What You’ll Do
Support the Senior Director, Communications and Public Relations by compiling items for review, processing expenses, and assisting with projects
Assist the Corporate Communications Senior Manager in the compilation of content from across Visit Seattle departments during the planning of Visit Seattle’s four Signature Events
Manage the department calendar, take meeting notes, and maintain the local and national media databases
Format and publish press releases on the Visit Seattle digital press room and MuckRack
Compile, draft, and format the Communications Team’s monthly round-up of earned media articles
Regularly update Visit Seattle’s online press kit with the destination updates to ensure accuracy and timeliness
Support the Public Relations Managers in hosting visiting journalists by building itineraries, assembling welcome materials, and logging post-visit information
Support the Communications Team’s outbound media missions and trade show presence by securing and shipping equipment and press materials
Plan, manage, and setup the Communications Team’s quarterly PR Roundtable featuring PR professionals from across Seattle
Oversee the general PR inbox and ensure inquiries are promptly directed to the appropriate Communications Team member
Key Qualifications
Candidates must have 1-2 years of administrative experience with preference given to those candidates with a communications background
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Possesses a strong attention to detail
Passion for the travel and tourism industry
Highly motivated with a strong work ethic, organized, and able to multi-task and consistently meet deadlines
Friendly, approachable, cooperative, and willing to assist others
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, required
Proficient in Microsoft applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language, English, used in the workplace
