Duties
Under the general supervision of the Township Supervisor, directs and oversees the operations of the Community Relations & Media Services Department. Manages the production and distribution of Township information and community programming for media outlets and Clinton Township residents.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
This position manages and supervises all operations, personnel and staff of Clinton Township’s Community Relations and Media Services Department. It develops Township messaging via news releases and social media content for local media and the community at large, and supervises video programming production for government access cable television and YouTube channels. The individual acts as liaison between the Township, consultants, vendors, service providers, cable TV subscribers, and administers information technology contracts, coordinating all aspects of the purchase and installation of new department technology. The Director is responsible for preparing, presenting, and administering the departmental budget, overtime usage, and employee expense reports. The Director also attends Township Board meetings and other meetings as necessary and performs other related work as required.
Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The individual must establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, discretion, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with system users, vendors, service providers, elected officials, employees, and professional contacts. The individual must communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing, and work alone or as part of a team. Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of media relations management, spokesperson duties, training, applied social media, media production, video recording production—including planning, creative development, and post‑production editing—is required. The individual must train, supervise, and evaluate the work of others, and be able to assess situations and solve problems under stress within deadlines and cost parameters based on extensive knowledge of municipal operations and practices. The individual must be skilled in the use of office equipment and technology and be able to master new technologies. The ability to safely lift and carry items up to 50 pounds is required.
Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in media communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in community relations, broadcast journalism, and video production—including writing, directing, recording, and editing—is required. Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and a good driving record. Applications will be accepted until sufficient applicants have been received.
