Overview
Wirecutter, part of The New York Times, seeks an Associate Video Editor to produce fast‑cut videos for the NYT app, Wirecutter website, and social platforms. The role is hybrid, based in New York City.
Responsibilities
Edit Wirecutter videos for publication, including refitting for multiple platforms.
Coordinate video publication with social and web teams to maximize distribution.
Collaborate with senior video editor on rough cuts of longer videos (5+ minutes).
Prepare smooth project handovers and finish incomplete edits.
Maintain video files and data backups in our database.
Assist on set during shoots to ensure smooth production.
Meet deadlines and juggle multiple tasks.
Perform related work as assigned.
Support and demonstrate commitment to the company’s journalistic mission.
Basic Qualifications
2+ years of relevant video editing experience.
Expertise in Adobe Premiere and Creative Suite, and troubleshooting technical issues.
Ability to film with both iPhones and DSLRs.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent news and editorial judgment.
Foundational knowledge of legal, ethical, copyright and usage issues for visuals.
Familiarity with journalistic standards and willingness to learn Wirecutter’s mission and methodology.
Salary Annual base pay: $70,000 – $80,000 USD.
