Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or related field or a high school diploma and four years of publishing experience.
  • At least eight years of corporate communications experience.
  • 12+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Exceptional writing ability (be prepared to share clips).
  • Proofreading/editing expertise and understanding of nuanced messaging.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Desire to learn and adhere to our style and brand.
  • Flexibility to learn new software.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Be deadline oriented.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in English, communications, or related field.
  • Experience with graphic design/layout.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or other graphics tools.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or other intranet tools.

Peraton’s Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team is looking for an experienced communications advisor who can transform technical jargon into easy-to-understand messaging. We’re looking for a writer who can master multiple voices for individuals at all levels of our almost 20,000 employee-strong company. Interested?

Responsibilities

  • Write executive level and technical feature and informational pieces.
  • Craft short feature and informational stories for our company intranet.
  • Edit copy according to style (AP and Peraton).
  • Research and develop content on multiple company areas.
  • Translate tech jargon to everyday, digestible language for both internal and external purposes.
  • Create products including intranet stories, FAQs, PowerPoints, how-to items, and marketing collateral.
  • Master Microsoft and Adobe applications.
  • Work with the larger MarCom team to ensure alignment with internal and external messaging, which may include social media posts.
  • Collaborate with the MarCom team on varied endeavors, which may include events, employee engagement, marketing materials, and graphic design.
  • Take the initiative to recommend improved processes and solutions.
  • Be a positive team player capable of participating in in-person or on-camera meetings and reporting to our Reston Town Center office when workload demands it.
