Communication Strategist (Water Business Group)

Overview

HDR believes water is a shared responsibility. In this role you will help shape how communities manage water, supporting public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop content marketing strategies and communication plans for specific initiatives and projects.
  • Lead global and local communication strategies in collaboration with business partners, creative, marketing, and communications teams.
  • Assist in the development and management of an editorial calendar.
  • Work with subject‑matter experts to develop and write white papers, feature articles, thought‑leadership pieces, and social‑media posts.
  • Ghost‑write and edit blogs, social‑media posts, papers, and/or presentations by subject‑matter experts.
  • Help develop collateral pieces and other marketing‑campaign materials.
  • Research, write, and edit project narratives and case studies.
  • Monitor industry best practices and maintain a repository of trends and examples.
  • Support event management where required.
  • Bring genuine, creative ideas to the table.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field.
  • Previous consulting and/or creative agency experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in communications: social media, event planning, community engagement, target marketing, descriptive writing, public involvement, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently with multiple teams; team oriented.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills - positive outlook and attitude.
  • High aptitude for managing and solving tactical issues.
  • Commitment to being an active participant of HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
  • Comfortable working with senior leaders and managing cross‑functional efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate strategically and tactically in a high‑energy, fast‑paced environment.
  • Committed to quality, continuous improvement, and HDR values.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite – InDesign.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Benefits & Compensation

Expected compensation range: $48,699 – $92,760 (varies with skills, experience, education, and location).
