Job Description

Teach a variety of Cinema and Television courses to a diverse student population. Courses may include a mix of film production, film writing, and film studies classes.

  • Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college, and district committees to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in professional development activities.
  • Participate in co‑curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
  • Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the SLO assessment cycle.
  • Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to the assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications).
  • Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties, including clerical and administrative responsibilities, in compliance with district, college, and division policies.
  • Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
  • Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or historically underserved (African American, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander, and other disproportionately impacted students).
  • Work cooperatively with staff and students.
  • Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

  • All degrees and coursework must be from accredited postsecondary institutions.
  • Foreign degrees and coursework may require evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • OR Associate degree AND six years of professional experience.
  • OR Valid California teaching credential for a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
  • OR Equivalent qualifications as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
  • Commitment to diversity: demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Film Production, Cinematic Arts, Cinema Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Record of academic and/or professional creative accomplishments in film/television.
  • Professional experience in two or more of the following areas: film studies, single‑camera digital film production and post‑production, entertainment media writing, television multi‑camera production.
  • College‑level teaching experience in film studies, film and television production, or a closely related area.
  • Experience with diverse teaching modalities (in‑person, hybrid, online).
  • Online teaching certification and experience working with Canvas or a similar Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Curriculum design and course updating experience that reflects current trends in film and television.
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and equitable classroom environment within a diverse community college setting.
  • Demonstrated success in advising students on academic and professional development, including transfer, internships, and portfolio building.

Salary Range

$85,541 – $128,379 Annually
