Adjunct Faculty, Film and Television Studies

Hofstra University is searching for a part‑time adjunct faculty member to teach courses within the new Hofstra in L.A. semester program, located on the Emerson College campus in Hollywood, California. The position will be held during the Spring 2026 semester (January 26–May 16, 2026).

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach the course RTVF 157 – Film Genres: Hofstra LA, focusing on film and television cinema set or shot in Los Angeles.
• Prepare lectures, assessments, and discussion materials and provide timely feedback to students.
• Maintain an accessible learning environment in English and perform all duties onsite at the Emerson College Los Angeles Center.
• Fulfill any additional teaching or service obligations assigned by the department.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) or master’s degree in film and television studies or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
• Research in film/television studies evidenced by publications in peer‑reviewed journals, books, or recognized media outlets.
• Significant professional experience in film and television studies and expertise teaching the history, theory, and aesthetics of the field.
• Flexibility to accommodate a teaching schedule and ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Availability to teach in the Spring 2026 semester.

Preferred

• At least 5 years of university‑level teaching in film and/or television studies.

Compensation

Pay rate: $148.51 – $156.51 per classroom hour. A “classroom hour” includes all teaching, preparation, grading, and related duties.
