The Department of Special Education at Nassau BOCES is seeking a Library Media Specialist. The successful candidate must have experience in curating and managing a dynamic school library program that supports the New York State Learning Standards and district curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with teachers to design and implement instruction that integrates information literacy, digital citizenship, and research skills
  • Promoting a reading culture by facilitating reading programs and book clubs
  • Teaching students how to locate, evaluate, and ethically use information from a variety of sources
  • Maintaining the library collection, including selection, acquisition, cataloging, and weeding of materials
  • Ensuring students and staff have equitable access to a wide range of print and digital records
  • Maintaining library technology tools and online databases
  • Providing tech support and training as needed

Requirements

  • New York State Education Department Certification: Library Media Specialist
  • Master's degree in library and information science from an accredited program
  • Knowledge of current educational technology, digital tools, and library automation systems
  • Strong interpersonal, communications, and collaboration skills
  • Passion for literacy, student engagement, and innovation in education
