Advanced Technical Artist – Environment – Online Multiplayer RPG
Join Avalanche, a Warner Bros. Games studio, to shape the world of an online multiplayer RPG. We seek a senior artist with deep expertise in Unreal Engine and large‑scale world building.
Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and support environment art pipelines, including foliage, materials, and world‑building workflows.
Collaborate with engineering and art leadership to set technical art standards, performance budgets, and optimization best practices for a large‑scale online world.
Create complex environment shaders (terrain, foliage, water), materials, and tools within Unreal Engine to empower artists and designers.
Drive innovation in art workflows and procedural content generation (PCG) to build and maintain our world at scale.
Support procedural placement, large‑scale lighting, and streaming optimization.
Mentor other artists and technical artists, providing guidance, documentation, and feedback.
Perform peer reviews and champion a high standard of technical art excellence.
Troubleshoot and solve complex art production issues, balancing performance and visual quality.
Qualifications
8+ years of professional technical art experience, working on cross‑functional teams.
Experience on at least one successfully‑published large‑scale multiplayer online game title or equivalent.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Art, Computer Science) or equivalent work experience.
Expert‑level proficiency with Unreal Engine (Blueprints, Material Editor, Foliage systems, PCG, core systems).
Deep experience in environment‑focused technical art (shader development, tools/pipeline, procedural systems, performance, lighting).
Experience building pipelines and tools to support large worlds.
Deep experience with 3D art software such as Maya, Houdini, etc.
Strong problem‑solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
Good to Have
A passion for online multiplayer RPGs.
Experience with live‑service games.
Exceptional understanding of all game development disciplines and their inputs into the content pipeline.
