Graduate Assistant for Athletic Marketing and Revenue Generation Posting Number: STU00013PO25 Location: USC Upstate, Spartanburg, SC Desired Start Date: 08/01/2025

Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Revenue Generation, this position will support and implement strategies toward maximizing fan attendance, ticketing and sponsorship revenue for USC Upstate athletics and its 13 sport programs.

At USC Upstate, we strive to provide an individualized and broad graduate assistantship experience. The overall goal of the graduate assistantship program is to gain knowledge and experience through opportunities so that upon graduation, an individual is ready to move into a full‑time position within the field of collegiate athletics administration.

Essential Job Functions

Lead marketing, promotional and game presentation effort for assigned sports

Serve as secondary marketing and group ticket contact for men’s and women’s basketball

Assist with corporate partnership prospecting, proposals and stewardship under the direction of the Sr. Associate AD for External Operations

Identify and implement grassroots marketing activities on-campus and around Spartanburg

Research and identify innovative concepts to enhance fan engagement and revenue generation

Assist with planning and execution of non‑game day events such as Morgan Square Madness, Sparty Awards, Sparty’s Ball, Fox Sports 98.3 FM Upstate Takeover Day and Hall of Fame Induction

Assist in training, scheduling and supervision of undergraduate student workers for assigned sports

Assist in managing USC Upstate’s presence at community events, including mascot appearances and Sparty’s Kids Club

Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Fan Experience or the Sr. Associate Athletic Director for External Operations

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Acceptance into the Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at the University of South Carolina, Columbia or the Business Analytics Master’s program at USC Upstate

Acceptance as a graduate student to assume the graduate assistant position

Ability to interact effectively with student‑athletes, colleagues, coaches and supporters

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Attention to detail

Successful background check

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (marketing, communications, sports management)

Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports franchises

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Prompt and regular attendance

Availability to work nights and weekend hours as defined by the schedule

Adherence to all USC Upstate, Big South Conference and NCAA rules and regulations

Comfort with juggling multiple tasks

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Compensation

Stipend of $1,000 per month for a 10‑month academic year, with the possibility of a summer appointment

Out‑of‑state tuition waiver, if applicable (valued at approximately $12,000 to $16,000 per year depending on hours)

Candidate responsible for in‑state tuition and related fees, approximately $10,300 to $14,000 per year depending on hours
