Business Development Representative (Outbound)
aspectLED is a direct supplier of LED linear lighting and specialty LED lighting. We offer expert project consultation through our team of LED lighting experts to electricians and other professionals who care about doing it right and are willing to try something new.
About the Role The Business Development Representative (BDR) is responsible for driving new business growth for aspectLED by proactively identifying, engaging, and converting new customers across multiple industries that align with our product offering. This national, outside sales position focuses primarily on outbound prospecting and relationship development through phone, email, networking outreach, and occasional in‑person meetings. The BDR will be a key contributor to expanding aspectLED’s market presence by generating qualified opportunities, nurturing relationships with potential customers, and achieving assigned sales goals. The role collaborates closely with the Customer Success team to ensure a seamless hand‑off of accounts and provide support for inbound opportunities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, research, and engage prospective customers through outbound phone calls, emails, LinkedIn/social selling, and occasional in‑person meetings to expand aspectLED’s customer base across diverse industries.
Generate qualified leads and convert them into sales opportunities by understanding customer needs, product fit, and project timelines.
Develop a strong pipeline of potential accounts by maintaining consistent outbound activity and follow‑up to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly activity goals.
Present and promote aspectLED’s full product portfolio to new customers primarily through virtual demonstrations, phone consultations, and follow‑up communication, complemented by in‑person visits as appropriate.
Collaborate with internal teams – including Marketing, Product, and Customer Success – to coordinate prospecting efforts, share market insights, and support strategic growth initiatives.
Support the Customer Success (inbound) team as needed to manage overflow or cross‑functional sales activities, ensuring a cohesive customer experience.
Maintain accurate and timely CRM data related to leads, pipeline activity, and sales performance metrics.
Attend select trade shows and industry events to represent aspectLED, generate leads, and strengthen brand awareness.
Meet and exceed established performance metrics, including outbound calls per day, pipeline value, new account sales, and total sales dollar goals.
Skills and Qualifications
2+ years of experience in sales, business development, or lead generation; experience in B2B or technical product sales preferred.
Proven success in outbound prospecting and cold calling, with the ability to build rapport and convert prospects into long‑term customers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, consultative approach to selling.
Self‑motivated and goal‑oriented, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and thrive in a performance‑driven environment.
Experience managing a sales pipeline and utilizing CRM systems (HubSpot or similar) for tracking and reporting.
Ability to quickly learn and articulate technical product details to match customer needs.
Collaborative mindset and willingness to assist Customer Success and other internal teams to ensure organizational success.
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Commercial or residential lighting experience (nice to have, but not required).
Work Schedule and Location This is a full‑time exempt position that will primarily work in the office, with the opportunity to work 1 day per week remotely. Our office is located at 4900 Constellation Drive, St. Paul, MN 55127. Phones and chats may need to be covered along with the Customer Success Team between 7:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday‑Friday.
Compensation Structure Total compensation range: $100,000–$150,000 OTE
(including base salary of $45,000–$55,000, based on experience, plus performance‑based incentives tied to individual and team results).
