These contractors earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income with a flexible schedule. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required, but the ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines is crucial.

Responsibilities

Most common type of inspection should only take 5–6 minutes.

Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.

Report general property conditions and make a determination of occupancy based on industry standards.

Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.

Complete a short form in an app.

Spend extended periods driving while making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.

Requirements

Computer with an internet connection.

Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus as you will be paying for your own gas).

Smartphone (Android or iPhone).

Printer.

Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.

Pay and Hours This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate that varies based on county and volume. Although you are paid per inspection, you will earn the equivalent of $30–$40 per hour.

Depending on the county and whether it is urban or rural, you can complete anywhere from 20–500 inspections per month working 2–30 hours per week. Lower volume counties have higher rates and higher volume counties have lower rates, and there is no set number of inspections per month, but the work is consistent month‑to‑month. Earn more as you become established, have greater availability, or cover a larger territory.

No additional mileage reimbursement above the flat fee per inspection.
