Role Overview
This position reports to the Controller and focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, analyzing data, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, audits, and process improvements to support financial health and strategic decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting function: account reconciliations, journal entries, AR, AP, and billing.
- Analyze and review company expenditures, confirming proper allocation of expenses to departments and reporting as necessary.
- Review transactions to ensure accounting treatment complies with GAAP and company policies.
- Analyze billing transactions to ensure proper allocation of revenue recognition policies.
- Review general ledger accounts and make all necessary journal entries, including posting monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals.
- Assist in building financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, and changes in financial position, as well as budget variance analysis.
- Assist in designing and preparing budgets for review by management.
- Prepare year‑end schedules for annual tax returns.
- Identify ways to improve accounting processes and procedures.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
- 3‑5 years (Staff Accountant) or 5‑8 years (Senior Accountant) in accounting or auditing; public accounting experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounting systems (NetSuite, Intacct, QuickBooks, etc.) strongly preferred.
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and deadline‑driven with the ability to multitask.
- Self‑starter, quick learner, and strong sense of ownership on issues.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and work well independently and in a team.
Benefits and Compensation
We are a total rewards package that includes medical and ancillary benefits, a potential yearly bonus, stipends for work‑from‑home expenses, flexible paid time off (our version of unlimited PTO), an annual professional development stipend, and a competitive base salary. The salary range for this position is $65,000‑$85,000, based on Chicago market data.
