Overview We have an immediate need for a Construction Inspector for our Water/Wastewater division. The successful candidate will support our current staff while assisting in growing the W/WW Inspection practice to better serve our clients statewide. This role offers unlimited opportunities to maintain existing client relationships, broaden STV’s service offerings geographically, be involved in major transportation projects, mentor junior staff, and promote a culture of healthy work‑life balance.

Responsibilities

Under supervision, coordinate and perform observations of water/wastewater treatment plants, public works, water/wastewater utility lines, street, highway, bridge, building components, infrastructure, and tract right‑of‑way on construction projects according to the specific areas of expertise of the inspector; perform related duties as required.

Conduct on‑site observations of construction installations, including materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, construction safety precautions, minor concrete structures, traffic control devices, and erosion and siltation control installations to determine compliance with contract plans and specifications, and with city and other governmental regulations.

Review construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.

Participate in meetings to discuss construction details and resolve issues with contractors and other project stakeholders.

Make field measurements, ensure conformance with applicable safety standards and regulations, assist in coordinating materials testing, identify on‑site project problems, and observe reports to alert appropriate members of the project team on non‑conformance issues.

Monitor correction of project deficiencies.

Identify and recommend approval of necessary contract or plan adjustments to accommodate field conditions.

Maintain daily diary and field records of material and quantities used.

Calculate and recommend formal approval of appropriate progress payments to contractors for work completed.

Investigate citizen complaints related to encroachment and/or grading violations.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of inspection or construction experience.

Broad expertise or unique knowledge with construction concepts and skills.

Ability to work on significant and unique issues and projects requiring evaluation of intangibles.

Independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Experience coordinating significant matters, often involving coordination among groups, and providing consultation and advice to management on matters of considerable importance.

Capability to determine methods and procedures for completing new or special assignments independently.

Occasional direct or indirect supervision of other personnel.

Compensation Range $61,704.00 – $82,272.00. This is an estimate; the final salary may vary based on geography, education, experience, and certifications.
