Overview: The Audit Specialist (Entry-Level) is responsible for assisting in the review and evaluation of the operations of the Leon County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller and the Board of County Commissioners. This position supports the internal audit function by assessing internal controls, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and verifying the accuracy and completeness of financial records. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Audit Manager and is reviewed through observation, documentation, and reporting.

STARTING SALARY WILL NOT EXCEED 10% OF THE BASE SALARY

Representative duties and tasks expected of the Audit Specialist position are listed below.

Participates in reviews of cash collection sites to ensure proper handling, recording, and safeguarding of funds.

Assists in the review of initial, annual, and final accountings filed by court-appointed guardians. May be assigned full-time to guardianship audits as needed.

Conducts guardianship audits in accordance with statewide Best Practices.

Attends meetings of the Florida State Guardianship Association and local chapters. Represents the Clerk’s Office in community outreach efforts related to guardianship audit requirements.

Prepares the Clerk’s Report and drafts proposed orders for judicial review in guardianship cases.

Participates in a full range of activities to ensure the effectiveness and performance of the internal audit function.

Assists in developing risk assessments and the annual audit work plan.

Performs all phases of assigned audits and special projects, including planning, fieldwork, and reporting.

Assists with audit follow-up procedures to monitor corrective actions.

Attends training to maintain certifications and enhance audit-related skills.

Supports the Audit Advisory Committee as assigned.

Reports any real or perceived impairments to independence or objectivity.

Maintains professional affiliations and participates in the FCCC Audit Forum.

Complies with the Division of Internal Auditing’s policies and procedures.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in internal/external auditing (governmental preferred), professional accounting, or related fiscal administration is preferred.

Certification: Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is not required but is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to interpret and apply guardianship law, governmental auditing standards, and internal policies.

Understanding of Best Practices for Guardianship Audits and related documentation.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prepare clear, objective, and well-documented reports.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Strong customer service orientation and professionalism.

Background and Additional Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Complete Background Check of Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC)/ National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

Past Employment Verification.

90-Day Introductory Period.

Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in an office environment. The position may involve working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and interacting with a variety of personalities.

Compensation and Benefits This position receives base salary plus benefits for an exempt position. Therefore weekend, holiday, and after-hours work may be required.
