Overview

The Director of Talent Development leads the design and execution of enterprise‑wide learning and talent management strategies that build leadership capability, strengthen our talent pipeline, and support operational excellence. This role partners with Operations, Store Support Office leadership, and the Director of Training to ensure that all development programs are aligned with business needs, drive measurable results, and reinforce Sprouts’ purpose and values. The Director will oversee the creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of all content and programs that prepare team members for current and future roles, ensuring a consistent and impactful Sprouts experience across the organization.
Overview of Responsibilities Learning Program Design & Leadership
Lead the end‑to‑end Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process (e.g., ADDIE): conduct needs analysis, design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning solutions for both field and support office audiences.
Design and deliver modern, blended learning experiences at scale—including eLearning, microlearning, video, facilitator‑led, and on‑the‑job training—grounded in adult learning theory.
Develop and maintain role‑based learning pathways and cohort programs through Manager and Director levels, integrating leadership assessments and personalized development journeys.
Champion innovation by bringing tech‑enabled, personalized, and adaptive learning to life (think AI education, microlearning, AI content creation tools and more).
Infuse Sprouts’ purpose, values, and culture into every learning and onboarding experience—helping team members connect their work to something bigger and feel like they belong.
Deliver performance support in the flow of work (e.g., job aids, micro‑videos, reinforcement nudges), enabling immediate application and behavior change on the job.
Define and track success metrics (Kirkpatrick, adoption, behavior change, operational KPIs); use data and feedback to continuously improve learning solutions.
Talent & Succession Planning
Own and continuously improve the tools, processes, and support for quarterly talent reviews and succession planning, enabling HR Business Partners and leaders to assess and develop their teams.
Design, implement, and maintain performance management processes and tools, ensuring coaching and development are meaningful, practical, and aligned with business needs.
Facilitate the creation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) by providing leaders with toolkits, training, and routines that make growth a shared responsibility.
Track and analyze succession health, pipeline depth, and internal fill rates, using data to identify opportunities for advancement and celebrate progress.
Ensure succession plans remain current and relevant, proactively preparing teams for future opportunities and key role transitions.
Collaborate across HR and business functions to identify talent gaps, support readiness, and align all talent processes with Sprouts’ purpose and values.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Partnership
Build, lead, and develop a blended team of program managers and instructional designers, setting clear operating rhythms, priorities, and standards to deliver enterprise learning solutions with agility and impact.
Establish a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability within the team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and values.
Foster strong partnerships with internal stakeholders (Operations, HR, Store Support Office, Training) to understand business needs, co‑create solutions, and drive adoption of learning and talent initiatives.
Manage relationships with external content partners and platform providers, negotiating scope, ensuring interoperability, and maximizing ROI across the learning technology stack.
Communicate proactively and transparently with all stakeholders, providing updates, gathering feedback, and adapting plans to meet evolving needs.
Qualifications
10+ years progressive experience in Talent Development, Learning & Development, or Organizational Development, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Demonstrated expertise in instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, adult learning theory), e‑learning development tools (Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia), and LMS administration.
Proven success designing and delivering learning solutions for multi‑unit/field operations in high‑volume environments; retail preferred.
Strong facilitation, relationship‑building, and stakeholder partnership skills; experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing vendor relationships.
Data‑driven approach to measuring learning effectiveness and connecting L&D initiatives to business outcomes.
Passion for purpose‑driven leadership, culture, and team‑member growth.
Hands‑on experience with Axonify, Arist, Articulate, and Workday HCM/Talent (or similar tools) preferred.
