Summary Provide flight instruction during a roughly 30‑minute flight per camper that is in accordance with Part 61, FAA regulations, the Airmen’s Information Manual, advisory circulars, airport operations, and EAA policies, procedures, and curriculum.
Roles And Responsibilities Ensure that all flight lessons are completed according to the EAA Air Academy Curriculum
Perform flight instructor duties authorized by the Federal Aviation Regulations in accordance with the approved curriculum
Maintain accurate records, including camper logbooks
Monitor maintenance condition of the training aircraft and notify EAA maintenance personnel of any questionable items
Provide flight and ground instruction to enrolled students while maintaining the highest level of safety and standards
Maintain a clean, professional environment – both in the aircraft and on the EAA grounds
Embrace and support the EAA mission and perform safe practices in the workplace and aviation environment
Step in to support staff in executing camp programming when flying is not possible
Assist with pre‑camp and post‑camp procedures
Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Certified Flight Instructor – Airplane Single Engine Land (CFI ASEL) required
Current second‑class medical certificate
Knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and related administrative and operational procedures and requirements
Knowledge of the ability to apply effective instructional techniques in the classroom and in flight
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast‑paced environment while exercising sound judgment at all times
Preferred Qualifications Actively instructing

Ability to instruct/teach

Aircraft piloting skills
Strong customer service skills
Physical Requirements Typical camp or classroom environment. Possibility of extended hours, which may encompass early mornings and late evenings, exceeding 40 hours per week. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Preparation for AirVenture or other events may require lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally, standing and walking for extended periods of time while bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and push and pull motions.
