Plumbing Trades Specialist 2
The Plumbing Trades Specialist 2 performs skilled, journeyman-level maintenance, repair, and installation of district-wide plumbing systems, including potable water, gas, drain, waste, and vent piping. The Plumbing Trades Specialist 2 services lab fixtures, components, and related infrastructure, ensuring proper operation of distilled and reclaimed water systems. The Plumbing Trades Specialist 2 installs, repairs, and tests backflow assemblies, and maintains plumbing tools and equipment such as pipe threading and sewer cable machines. Additional responsibilities include fabricating brackets and supports, estimating labor and material costs, and maintaining accurate schedules and records. The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel. Duties & Responsibilities
Estimates, plans, and completes plumbing jobs from start to finish, factoring in customer requirements and coordination with other trades, contractors, and local utility agencies. Ensures project plans align with building codes and safety regulations. Purchases and tracks plumbing materials, creates work orders, and maintain accurate expenditure reports related to repairs and maintenance. Keeps detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and service reports. Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial building plumbing systems, including potable water, gas, drain, waste, and vent systems, in compliance with the International Plumbing Code and institutional standards. Troubleshoots and resolves urgent plumbing problems to ensure uninterrupted service and safe operations. Provides preventive maintenance to plumbing systems and related components to ensure reliability and efficiency. Tests, services, and repairs plumbing equipment, shop tools, augers, welders, and backflow assemblies. Ensures all equipment is maintained and functioning according to safety and performance standards. Reviews construction plans and related documents to prepare for plumbing projects, verify compatibility with existing systems, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. Collaborates with Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Planning, Work Control, and other trades to coordinate and complete assigned projects efficiently. Maintains working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, central plant, and structural systems to support coordinated maintenance and repair efforts. Assists other shops and may be assigned out of trade to support additional maintenance or repair needs as directed by management. Practices safety-first measures in all work performed and ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory safety standards. Communicates effectively and respectfully with supervisors, peers, and other facilities staff while maintaining professionalism, cooperation, and a focus on completing work efficiently and safely. Participates in rotating on-call duties, including after-hours and weekend work, as assigned. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
