Job Summary
The Bookstore Retail Specialist provides support to the retail operation, assists with fulfillment of online orders during peak business periods, prepares purchase orders, invoices, and credit memos for the accounting office, and assists with the product check‑in process, merchandising, stocking, and warehouse organization of products and fixtures. This role provides exceptional customer service to assist students, employees, and guests of the college, acts as a team lead, and serves as a mentor to student employees. The Retail Specialist supports the Retail Supervisor with the opening and/or closing operation of the bookstore as necessary.
Responsibilities
Support leadership and the bookstore operation, serving as a lead team member on the retail floor and mentoring student employees.
Receive general merchandise in the point‑of‑sale system, complete product returns, and support the fulfillment of general merchandise online orders during peak periods.
Assist with product display and general maintenance of the sales floor; conduct walk‑throughs to ensure product presentation, stock levels and cleanliness meet retail standards; pack/unpack merchandise assortments for events.
Assist with the product check‑in process, merchandising, stocking, warehouse organization of products and fixtures, and operate a register as necessary.
Prepare inventory organization, tag merchandise for counting, train others in inventory prep, and participate in store inventory (counting, scanning, discrepancies) and cycle counts.
Provide cross‑functional support with bookstore projects and serve as a backup for store opening/closing; support fulfillment (picking, billing, shipping) of general merchandise and textbook online orders during peak periods; assist with ordering, receiving/invoicing, and inventory maintenance of convenience store items.
Retail Support & Inventory
Supports leadership and the bookstore operation, serving as a lead team member and mentoring student employees.
Receives general merchandise in the point‑of‑sale system, completes product returns, and supports online order fulfillment.
Assists with product display, floor appearance, stock levels, and cleanliness; packs/unpacks merchandise for events.
Assists with product check‑in, merchandising, stocking, and warehouse organization; operates a register as needed.
Prepares inventory organization, tags merchandise, trains staff, and participates in stock counts.
Provides cross‑functional support and backup for opening/closing; supports fulfillment and inventory maintenance of convenience items.
Customer Service & Partnerships
Provides exceptional customer service to students, employees, and guests; maintains a consistent presence on the sales floor as lead cashier/customer associate; communicates with customers on order/delivery status.
Provides support to marketing/social media; partners with the print shop to create store signage; schedules and posts promotions; attends events such as graduation and author signings.
Financial & Clerical
Prepares purchase orders, invoices, and credit memos for the accounting office; verifies order information, receives merchandise, sorts & scans paperwork, and sends documents to Accounts Payable for approval.
Resolves shipment shortages, damaged items, past‑due invoice notes, and tracks BPO/account funds, notifying Supervisor of shortages or needed accounts.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree.
Two (2) years of customer service or retail experience.
