Summary First Security Bank is seeking a professional, energetic and team-oriented individual to join our team as a Retail Management Trainee! If this is you and you want to join a dynamic team who is passionate about serving our Arkansas community, then you should apply! This individual will gain foundational skills for an entry-level management role in retail banking. Over the course of this one-year program, the trainee will learn how to champion First Security Bank’s leadership responsibilities as presented at Bank Better University: Leadership Training. Trainee will gain a solid understanding of retail management skills by participating in hands‑on training related to branch operations, compliance, and sales performance of the branch. They will also be required to attend various leadership and procedural training classes.
This position requires employees to work on site and the ability to travel/float between branches within designated market.
Qualifications | Education | Experience | Skills
Minimum age 18 years.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Post‑secondary education preferred.
Completion of retail checklists through supervisor level within one year required.
Demonstrated ability to train employees, set goals and provide direction.
Reliable transportation and ability to travel between branches and/or for work‑related training required.
Proficiency with Outlook, Word, typing, 10‑key and internet usage required.
Willingness to demonstrate Core 5 values with customers and coworkers.
Hours of Availability Regularly scheduled hours: 40+ hours/week. Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:30 pm. Rotating Saturdays 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. Extended working hours may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Observe and learn from experienced retail management team.
Create a positive working environment that facilitates exceptional service, expands profitable relationships and employee engagement.
Support and promote customer care that makes customers feel welcomed, significant, and engaged.
Empower banking center team to take ownership of achieving personal and banking center goals.
Learn to manage and schedule retail staff duties and conduct weekly huddles to keep staff informed of changes to policies.
Serve as a communication link between departments and leadership to ensure team is informed of directives and bank performance.
Instill continuous professional growth and foster esprit‑de‑corps by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising results, coaching, counseling, disciplining and enforcing policies.
Adapt to various management styles and handle frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
Become familiar with First Security Bank Handbook and administrative employee policies.
Operations
Frequently perform all essential retail duties and ensure staff follows policies.
Provide customers with exceptional service and ensure staff execute operational excellence.
Be familiar with security equipment and enforce procedures; report concerns.
Ensure audit controls are followed; complete monthly audits.
Support compliance with regulatory guidelines such as BSA, Regulation CC, Regulation E and Fair Lending.
Review fraudulent transactions and suspicious activities; adhere to SAR and CTR.
Monitor wire transfers for accuracy.
Resolve customer complaints beyond scope of other personnel.
Assist with reviewing daily reports and resolving account maintenance issues.
Work with management to develop banking center objectives and specific programs.
Complete special requests: redeem U.S. Savings Bonds, close accounts, order checks, exchange foreign currencies, complete safe‑deposit box procedures, and provide account printouts and research.
Business Development
Familiarize with products and services offered through other lines of business and cash management products.
Build and maintain customer relationships via community outreach and activities.
Communicate and exchange information with internal and external customers; deliver quality service and 2nd Mile Service.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
Adhere to strict privacy of customer account information.
Operate computer software and equipment, telephone, scanner and copier; proficiency with Bankway required.
Have valid driver's license and reliable transportation for on‑site work and travel.
Attend various retail and leadership training classes and incorporate skills.
Additional duties may be assigned by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities This position will have no direct supervisory responsibilities. Part of the training process includes observation of manager decisions. The trainee will learn discipline and evaluation of retail staff performance.
Soft Skills Foster a culture that values high ethical conduct, critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and exceptional service. Establish positive, productive work relationships that provide honest feedback and generate trust.
Physical Demands Clarity and ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and finger movements; telephone use; occasional stooping, kneeling or crouching; lift up to 50 lb; hold driver's license; vehicle for business travel.
Mental Demands Strong independent problem‑solving skills; manage multiple projects; maintain confidentiality; analytical judgment; mathematical competency; read, interpret, draft instructions and present complex information.
