The Sr. Specialist, Product Development- Physical Science (Growing Media Process & Formulations Sr. Specialist) will support product development from bench-top experiments to commercial launch with oversight. They will play a key role in innovating growing media/soils technologies for consumer lawn and garden care products. Responsibilities include developing new products and processes, improving existing formulations, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and potentially discovering new technologies. The Sr. Specialist will align technologies with consumer and business needs, contributing to our strategy by providing formulations support and championing select projects. This role involves collaboration with Packaging Development, Biology, Marketing, Sourcing, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams.
Responsibilities
Document, analyze, and report data to cross-functional teams, peers, and leadership making recommendations on path forward. Reports may be a combination of digital and oral presentation
Hands on development and verification of new formulations at lab, pilot, and manufacturing scales in accordance with all applicable compliance requirements (e.g., OMRI, OIM, USDA, EPA). Create, route, review necessary specifications within SAP and other applications
Provide technical support to operations, quality, and contract manufacturing for new or current formulations
Collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure alignment on project goals and maximize efficient use of resources versus milestones and commercialization schedules.
Engage with peers on formulation design and data analysis. Help onboard new and temporary associates through hands on instruction based on internal guidelines and experience

Education Completed Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or other science/process related field
Experience Years of experience required may vary based on the highest level of education completed. Example: Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of experience, or Master's degree with 0-2 years of experience. Experience within commercial based research is beneficial.
The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $67,800.00 - $79,800.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
