Directs and manages the daily operations of the nutrition services department including staffing, training, budget compliance, procurement, production, service, and regulatory compliance. If the hospital is using an outside nutrition services vendor for meal service, coordinates preparation and delivery of food for patient meals and ensures appropriate menus served according to diet orders and in compliance with current regulations. All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and PI Standards. .
Essential Functions:
Directs and manages the daily operations of the hospital's nutrition services department. Ensures compliance with P&P's and makes recommendations for revision, as indicated. Implements Continuous Quality Improvement Procedures for the hospital's Nutrition Services Department. Participates in the hospital QAPI committee, Infection Control Committee, Utilization Review Committee, Safety Committee and/or other committees assigned. Monitors and ensures compliance with food safety/sanitation standards, including maintaining records. Ensures patient menus are approved by the registered dietitian and are correctly followed by staff. Communicates dietary needs and consults with registered dietitian. Assures delivery of appropriate nutritional care and maintains patient satisfaction with food service. Procures food and nutrition supplies from approved sources. Maintains appropriate stock for patient nutrition care including meals, snacks, and supplementation. Demonstrates understanding of departmental budget and manages effectively. Acts as the department liaison with other departments/vendors to ensure adequate nutrition care. Keeps current on all meal censuses, diet orders / change orders. Develops and manages nutrition service personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Educational / Experience Requirements:
At least 2 years' experience in a dietary department is desirable. CDM, DTR, or RD preferred. Must meet all educational requirements needed to be fully eligible to sit for the ANFP approved CDM-CFPP certification and be willing to obtain such certification*. Must have nationally approved Food Safety Manager Certification. Must meet all other requirements as required by federal and state laws. Qualifications / Skills:
Must be able to read and write. Good communication skills needed. Demonstrate understanding of food safety principles and sanitation regulations. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of patient centered nutrition care needs in the behavioral health care setting including, but not limited to therapeutic diets, allergies, and modified textures. Courtesy, adaptability, strong writing skills and medical terminology preferred. CPR certified. An Oceans Healthcare approved behavioral health de-escalation program. Work Environment: Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
