Job Overview Directs and manages the daily operations of the hospital’s nutrition services department, including staffing, training, budget compliance, procurement, production, service and regulatory compliance. Coordinates meal service with external vendors as needed, ensuring menus meet diet orders and current regulations. All duties are performed in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans’ Mission, policies and procedures and PI Standards.
Essential Functions
Directs and manages the daily operations of the nutrition services department.
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures, making recommendations for revision as indicated.
Implements Continuous Quality Improvement procedures for the department.
Participates in the hospital QAPI, Infection Control, Utilization Review, Safety committees and other assigned committees.
Monitors and ensures compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, maintaining records.
Ensures patient menus are approved by the registered dietitian and correctly followed by staff.
Communicates dietary needs and consults with the registered dietitian.
Assures delivery of appropriate nutritional care and maintains patient satisfaction with food service.
Procures food and nutrition supplies from approved sources.
Maintains appropriate stock for patient nutrition care, including meals, snacks and supplementation.
Demonstrates understanding of departmental budget and manages effectively.
Acts as the department liaison with other departments and vendors to ensure adequate nutrition care.
Keeps current on all meal censuses, diet orders and change orders.
Develops and manages nutrition service personnel.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
At least 2 years’ experience in a dietary department is desirable.
CDM, DTR, or RD preferred.
Must meet all educational requirements needed to be fully eligible to sit for the ANFP approved CDM‑CFPP certification and be willing to obtain such certification.
Must have nationally approved Food Safety Manager Certification.
Must meet all other requirements as required by federal and state laws.
Qualifications / Skills
Must be able to read and write; good communication skills needed.
Demonstrate understanding of food safety principles and sanitation regulations.
Thorough knowledge of patient‑centered nutrition care needs in the behavioral health care setting, including therapeutic diets, allergies, and modified textures.
Courtesy, adaptability, strong writing skills, and medical terminology preferred.
CPR certified.
Experience with an Oceans Healthcare approved behavioral health de‑escalation program.
Work Environment Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high‑paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to the atmosphere. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
