Kitchen Mechanic
to support our mission of providing excellent food service to the GSU community.
What Will You Do This position reports to the Dining Services Manager and performs plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, electronic, and mechanical preventive maintenance. You will work independently on kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, freezers, fryers, disposals, pumps, motors, ovens, compressors, and more. Responsibilities include inspecting, repairing or replacing parts, adjusting, lubricating, cleaning functional components, installing or relocating equipment, and developing operational procedures to protect Dining’s capital investments through preventive maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Continuously execute the Dining Services' Preventative Maintenance (PM) program, including all commercial kitchen appliances, HVAC-R components, and hot water systems, using troubleshooting skills.
Manage materials, parts, and equipment needed for the PM program, including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement.
Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area.
Perform repairs quickly to minimize downtime.
Provide flexible scheduling to service all units.
Create and execute repair plans for all Panther Dining locations across campus, complying with local, state, and federal regulations.
Adhere to guidelines and schedules for performing repairs.
Communicate and coordinate with internal and external project participants to ensure work proceeds on schedule with minimal impact to university operations.
Document and maintain accurate maintenance reports for all equipment.
Work with Property Control to keep labeling up to date.
Research and report all repair costs and maintain budget expectations.
Follow up on billing and receivables for all units.
Maintain accurate Purchase Card transactions and vehicle records in accordance with university and state guidelines.
Maintain trade-specific training and certifications, obtaining further training as needed.
Participate in continuous departmental process improvements.
Perform regular administrative tasks such as file maintenance, paperwork processing, data entry, and system monitoring.
Represent and promote the interests and mission of Auxiliary and Support Services in assigned areas and among a broad-based constituency.
Consistently promote excellent customer service.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED and four years of experience working with commercial kitchen equipment. Refrigerant certification preferred or ability to obtain certification within six months of employment.
Must have a valid GA driver's license.
Preferred Requirements
HVACR Certification
EPA Certification
Electrical/Plumbing Experience
Experience with Commercial Kitchen Equipment
Knowledge of Safety Regulations
Physical Requirements: Extended standing, walking, ability to bend, stoop, reach and climb ladders.
Ability to lift 35 pounds.
Ability to work in all temperature conditions.
Flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
