Role Overview The PSR III – Site Lead draws quality blood samples from patients and prepares specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. The Site Lead has direct contact with patients, creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence, and explains procedures to patients and draws blood specimens skillfully, safely, and accurately. This role directs daily activity at a Patient Service Center (PSC) or In‑Office Phlebotomy (IOP) site, leads more than one PSR on site, and may provide coverage at multiple locations. The Site Lead must ensure that all daily activities are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with Quest’s quality standards.
Responsibilities
Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screening, and insurance exams.
Administer oral solutions and research test/client information; verify all written and electronic orders.
Complete all data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration and test orders.
Enter billing information and collect payments when required, safeguarding credit card information.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
Perform data entry, inventory, and clerical duties as assigned.
Perform verification of patient demographics and tube labeling.
Maintain phlebotomy logs, temperature logs, and other required records.
Participate in special projects, teams, and ongoing training.
Act as a mentor and resource for new employees, provide onboarding services, and support their transition.
Communicate professionally with clients, document problems, and report critical issues.
Ensure safety precautions, proper use of PPE, and a clean, well‑maintained facility.
Assist with the preparation of schedules for the assigned work group or PSC.
Lead more than one PSR on site and act as a coach, mentor, and instructor.
Qualifications
Five years phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
Keyboard/data entry experience.
Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on‑call and overtime.
Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record.
Travel and flexible hours required to work multiple locations with minimal notice.
Preferred Experience
Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
Minimum 3 years in a Patient Service Center (PSC) / In‑Office (IOP) environment preferred.
Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Lifting: light to moderately heavy objects (1–25 lb); occasional lifting of 26–40 lb; not to be lifted over 41 lb without assistance.
Long periods of sitting or standing; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination.
Repetitive tasks; extensive use of phone and PC; fine dexterity.
Travel; walking; bending; kneeling; pushing/pulling; reaching; twisting.
Knowledge and Skills
Commitment to all Quest Diagnostics Policies & Procedures and Everyday Excellence Guiding Principles.
Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric.
Superior customer focus and the ability to communicate openly and transparently.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high‑volume setting.
Decision‑making based on established procedures and good judgment.
Education and Certification
High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states; preferred).
