Work Environment: Indoor camp setting, Outdoor nature setting. Landis Woods Park: 2369 Lititz Pike

Summary Work with the Nature Day Camp Director and co-counselors in a leadership/supervisory role to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the camp, as well as provide a fun, safe, and memorable camp experience. Working hours for this position will vary Monday-Friday between the hours of 6:45AM-6:15PM for the duration of the 10-week program (8-9-hour shift). Select mandatory training schedule will be provided by Recreation Department manager. Chosen candidate will be in direct contact with children, counselors, parents, camp director, and Environmental Education Program Manager.

Essential Functions

Assist director in overseeing day-to-day operations of Nature Day Camp.

Assist director with planning daily activities and stick to the schedule.

Ensure each child is appropriately signed in and out each day.

Provide leadership role to counselors. Help with delegating activities for the day.

Ensure children are always in a safe environment.

Assist in coordinating structured games, activities, and crafts.

Effectively communicate rules, guidelines, scoring, and possible scenarios regarding activities.

Assist director with leading daily camper meeting.

Communicate with parents any major behavioral issues which occurred that day.

Consult with camp director to create a weekly newsletter and distribute to parents.

Fill in as camp director in their absence.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to traverse park trails, with varying degrees of difficulty, at least 1.5 miles

Able to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently, with or without accommodation.

Ability to supervise students in multiple environments, including in nature on trails, fields, and woodlands.

Minimum Age: 18

Competencies

Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification

Required legal background checks

Willingness to engage with parents and communicate about their child's behavior

Knowledge of English word usage, spelling, and punctuation.

Skills

Knowledge of various recreational games and activities.

Good leadership, communication, and social skills.

Abilities

Communicate effectively with participants and parents.

Give clear and concise instructions.

Required Education and Experience

Highschool Diploma or GED

2 years child management experience

Preferred Education and Experience

Enrolled in a secondary education program for Education, Park and Rec, or related field.

2-year supervising children.
