Position Overview Are you ready to make a real impact in reintegration? The Department of Corrections (DOC) seeks a driven Corrections Counselor 1 to join our dedicated team at the Pittsburgh Community Corrections Center (CCC). Utilize your counseling and social work expertise to guide individuals transitioning from incarceration, helping them build independent lives.
Responsibilities
Provide counseling and case management services to reentrants.
Conduct assessments and make necessary referrals.
Assist in developing home plans and equipping reentrants with necessary skills and resources to live independently.
Support reentrants in obtaining identification, medical assistance, and Social Security.
Help reentrants achieve goals related to employment, training, education, housing, and community service.
Provide enhanced support to reentrants who require it.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
Work hours: 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday – Friday (including a 30‑minute lunch).
Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
No telework option.
Salary: partially non‑negotiable in some cases.
Qualifications
Three years and six months as a corrections officer with 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; OR a bachelor’s degree in those fields; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants who are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree will be considered to have met the educational requirements.
Special and Other Requirements
Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
Be able to perform essential job functions.
Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.
