Account Executive – Buffalo, NY • Sage
The Account Executive role focuses on selling Sage Vantage and other digital or print educational content to Higher Education faculty within a designated geographic territory. The position operates on a hunter mentality, with the goal of growing market share by successfully establishing new business, demonstrating technology product capabilities, and cultivating relationships with faculty and other customers to generate new revenue and expand existing accounts.
Base pay range $70,000 – $75,000 per year (base salary only)
Job Functions And Responsibilities Following a Strategic Territory Selling Plan, built with sales management support, the ideal candidate will:
Be highly visible to customers, conduct quality sales calls, and secure Vantage demonstrations using professional selling techniques.
Position themselves and Sage as a strategic business partner within social science and business departments by actively listening to customer needs.
Travel to assigned campuses during selling seasons as required, including overnight travel up to 20% of the work week.
Conduct effective sales calls to grow new revenue via campus appointments, video calls, phone and email exchanges to advance the territory pipeline.
Identify and qualify new sales leads in the territory, and grow existing business into recurring revenue models to meet sales goals.
Deploy key sales tools daily, using insights from these tools to accelerate pipeline movement.
Grow market share at the territory and key title level each selling season through strong internal partnerships and personal resilience.
Demonstrate Sage technology confidently during sales calls and utilize sales enablement tools.
Maintain accurate CRM data by updating the sales pipeline each day.
Plan campus outreach through trips, video calls, and phone calls.
Complete expense reports promptly and adhere to annual travel and expense budgets.
Provide excellent customer service, ensuring a positive experience for potential and existing customers.
Work with current customers to cross‑sell and refer new business.
Product and Market Knowledge
Communicate market feedback and product information to internal teams.
Develop deep product knowledge through learning programs to articulate product value propositions.
Address objections and misconceptions effectively, independently or in collaboration with specialists.
Supply product teams with market development leads, faculty advocates, and potential textbook authors.
Planning, Reporting, and Database Maintenance
Lead Generation: identify courses, decision makers, enrollments, and product‑in‑use information for targeted course markets.
Prioritize pipeline and optimize revenue using CRM.
Plan campus outreach schedules (trips, video calls, phone calls).
Submit expense reports on time and manage annual budget.
Conference Attendance/Business Travel
Full‑day and overnight travel to customers 2+ hours away is required during active selling periods.
Attend bi‑annual sales meetings and other company‑wide meetings.
Customer/Author Relations
Provide excellent customer service with timely information, resources, and troubleshooting.
Ensure a positive company image for all customer and author interactions.
Cross‑sell and refer within the installed base of business.
Required
Bachelor’s degree
Proven record of success in academic and professional contexts
2–4+ years of sales experience with a creative, persuasive, strategic, and persistent demeanor
Hunter mentality, self‑reliant and success‑oriented
Strong technology demonstration skills
Willingness to work required hours and travel as assigned
Ability to work independently and in a team
Proficient PC skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications, PowerPoint
Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
Outstanding time management and organization with attention to detail
Flexibility and adaptability to changing business needs
Preferred
Field‑based sales experience, especially for remote‑based sales roles
Publishing industry sales experience or related SaaS/technology experience
Experience with CRM systems
Familiarity with sales technology programs and video conferencing
