Scouting America Heart of New England Council is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven professional to serve as Field Director. This role will lead a team of Unit Serving Executives and Unit Growth Executives to provide exceptional service to existing units and drive significant growth in units and membership.

Responsibilities

Execute highly effective recruitment and renewal campaigns that achieve and exceed numerical and on-time objectives.

Work with Commissioner staff on improving and stabilizing unit adult leaders, youth membership, and unit retention.

Serve as Scout Executive designee related to Scouting America Youth Protection policies, adult leader, and youth membership standards.

Participate in Council events to cultivate relationships with volunteers, current and potential chartered partners, and other community groups that have a like-minded interest in serving young people.

Pursue professional growth activities that will grow personal capacity with the approval and support of the CEO/Scout Executive and management staff.

Guides the district executives to recruit, develop, and maintain effective volunteer management teams.

Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates top-quality volunteers.

Assures the districts have a long-range strategy and achieve their missions with consistent, timely progress.

Assuring the flow of funds from the districts helps the council to achieve its mission.

Assures that executive visits are made to heads of institutions annually to review leadership and quality items.

Evaluates the performance of district executives and maintains records of their achievements, failures.

Qualifications

Successful experiences in Unit Serving Executive or mid-managerial roles demonstrated membership and unit growth record, and strong annual performance review evaluations.

Excellent written and oral communication skills; negotiation skills; and the ability to deal with complex concepts and ambiguity.

Demonstrated commitment to collaboration. The ability to work well both independently and collectively with other team members.

Technical/digital competence, including data analytics, report generation, and basic graphic design.

Excellent and mature judgment.

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and interact effectively with volunteers.

Ability to travel within Council territory and work evenings and weekends as needed.

Must be willing to accept and meet Scouting America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior Scouting America Unit Serving Executive with experience and a strong performance record.

Demonstrated experience engaging volunteers in the development of meaningful and productive relationships.
