The Great Falls Council serves over 5,300 Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers, Explorers, and over 3,000 adult volunteers in nearly 300 units across Western NY and the Twin Tiers (NY & PA). Our council is looking for the right person for a growing area to serve a solid district that has potential for substantial FOS and membership growth.
The District Director is the Chief Operating Officer of one or more districts and may supervise one or more professionals in the district or in other districts. Serves as a manager and operating officer of the district(s) and is responsible for the effective organization, operation, and promotion of the council program within the district(s). Is responsible for the achievement of the district’s objectives and goals. Works with the chair, commissioner, district committee(s) and commissioner staff(s) to fulfill functions and facilitate the collaboration between the district and the board. This position will require frequent travel and work with populations within Western New York.
Responsibilities
Working with and supporting the District Nominating Committee, recruits, develops, and maintains effective volunteer management teams. Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, retains, and motivates top-quality volunteers. Assures the district achieves its mission and makes consistent progress. Assures that the flow of funds from the district helps the council to achieve its mission. Provides leadership and training to other staff in the council. The position will have key council assignments for professional growth and development. Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment). Qualifications
Ability to supervise staff utilizing effective back-dating and work scheduling. Proven fundraising success and skills in community organization. Individuals should understand the process to identify potential upper-level prospects and have the skill set to work with and support Council Board members to approach potential prospects. Effective in managing membership and new unit organization to achieve growth on a consistent basis, with attention to retention of units and youth. Ability to manage functioning districts at a high level of operation and effectively utilize the annual nominating committee process. Prior experience in Scouting, not to 3 years or more successful experience as a District Executive or Senior District Executive. Well-organized, detail-oriented, and polished staff leadership skills. Excellent analytic skills with a proven commitment to accuracy and timeliness. Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Focus on continuous improvement and growth, both within the organization and with oneself. A flexible schedule is frequently required for evening/weekend events. Team player, positive attitude, and willing to learn. Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured. Seeking an individual who is professional in dress, well-spoken, and comfortable in social and networking settings. Strong interpersonal, written communication, and verbal presentation skills. Driver’s license Compensation:
The Great Falls Council is an equal opportunity employer. In addition to offering a
competitive salary between $65,000 and $75,000 , the position offers benefits to include major medical, prescription coverage, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, accidental death, a retirement plan, plus compensation for authorized and approved business expenses, including mileage reimbursement. We also offer a generous vacation policy and ten holiday observances. Must have a valid driver’s license, own a car, and have the ability to travel, including local and regional visits, and work some evenings and weekends. Must be willing to accept and meet the Boy Scouts of America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law. A Scouting background is helpful but not required.
