Job Overview The Senior Manager, Technical SEO leads Macy’s enterprise‑level search strategy by driving technical implementation in key areas including crawlability, indexation, structured data, performance, and quality assurance. The role manages a team of SEO specialists and collaborates closely with product and engineering partners to ensure SEO best practices are integrated across sprints, site updates, and platform enhancements.

What You Will Do

Oversee audits to assess crawl efficiency, indexation, canonicalization, and Core Web Vitals.

Lead SEO quality assurance both pre- and post‑launch for new features, templates, and site updates.

Identify technical SEO opportunities and partner with engineering and product teams to scope, refine, and implement solutions and roadmap features.

Analyze log files and crawl diagnostics to detect and resolve technical issues.

Support implementation of structured data, mobile‑first optimization, and JavaScript SEO enhancements.

Ensure proper configuration of robots.txt files, meta tags, and sitemap structures.

Document technical SEO processes and develop scalable, repeatable playbooks.

Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Technical SEO Expertise

– Deep knowledge of crawlability, indexation, canonicalization, Core Web Vitals, and structured data, with proven ability to lead audits and drive site performance improvements.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

– Ability to partner effectively with product, engineering, and analytics teams to scope, communicate, and implement SEO initiatives across the enterprise.

Technical Requirements Development

– Experience translating SEO needs into clear, actionable requirements for engineering and product teams.

Analytical & Diagnostic Skills

– Proficiency in analyzing log files, crawl diagnostics, and page speed tools to identify and resolve complex SEO issues.

Tool Proficiency

– Strong command of SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, Botify, PageSpeed Insights, and Adobe Analytics.

HTML & JavaScript Knowledge

– Understanding of HTML, JavaScript frameworks, rendering behavior, and how these impact SEO, especially for mobile‑first and dynamic sites.

Team Leadership

– Experience managing SEO specialists and leading SEO‑focused workstreams with the ability to develop scalable playbooks and best practices.

Communication & Influence

– Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify technical concepts and influence stakeholders across both technical and non‑technical functions.

Who You Are

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field; 5+ years of technical SEO experience for enterprise‑level or ecommerce websites.

Comfortable performing tasks that involve sitting, talking, and handling physical items; occasional movement and fine vision required.

Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
