Community Pharmacist - Full-Time Opportunity Location: United States, West Virginia, Morgantown

The pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care at the Pharmacy Ambulatory Retail Services at West Virginia University Hospitals, including direct patient care, operations, education, and administration. The pharmacist also assumes a leadership role in the profession of pharmacy.

Minimum Qualifications

Current state pharmacist license (Ohio or West Virginia as applicable).

State criminal background check (and federal if required).

Basic Life Support certification within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy.

Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Certification through the American Pharmacists Association.

Immunization Certification through the American Pharmacists Association.

Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) through the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy.

Basic Life Support certification within 60 days of hire.

Experience

Residency training program.

Three years of pharmacist experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Provides leadership and care for patients in assigned areas, guiding providers and patients on best practices and safe drug use.

Responsible for dispensing and controlling prescription and non‑prescription medicines.

Completes annual clinical competency evaluations.

Reviews prescriptions issued by a physician or other authorized prescriber to ensure accuracy.

Directs pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.

Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage.

Detects, reports, and helps to manage adverse drug reactions and medication errors.

Assists nursing and other disciplines in admission and discharge planning and patient education regarding medication use.

Assumes responsibility for and makes decisions related to the provision of pharmaceutical services.

Actively engages patients and clients regarding customer service programs offered by the pharmacy.

Actively engages patients and clients regarding program integrations offered by the pharmacy.

Identifies problems related to drug use control and offers constructive ideas for resolution.

Ensures that policies and procedures related to drug distribution are followed.

Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.

Participates in the orientation and education of pharmacy students, residents, and new department employees.

Makes professional competence by attending conferences, continuing education, reading current literature, and publishing clinical or practice research.

Participates in administrative, quality assurance, performance improvement, and research activities of the department.

Supervises technicians in drug preparation and distribution duties.

Maintains awareness of third‑party Rx systems and resolves third‑party rejection problems, re‑submits claims for payment promptly.

Participates in medication use evaluations, quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.

Enter data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.

Instructs technicians, interns, and other pharmacy personnel on matters pertaining to state/federal law.

Participates in planning and implementing changes in the pharmacy and improves productivity through staff meetings and projects.

Physical Requirements

Walk and stand for long periods.

Lift up to 30 pounds and push up to 50 pounds.

Dexterity required to finger, handle, and reach.
