Job Overview Lake Norman High School, a committed and dynamic educational institution, is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Athletic Director to oversee the planning, administration, and operation of our comprehensive athletic programs. This position is responsible for fostering a positive environment that emphasizes student‑athlete development, promotes physical fitness, and ensures the overall success of our athletic teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organizational skills, and an unwavering commitment to high school athletics and student welfare.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management: Develop and manage a competitive and comprehensive athletic program for all sports, ensuring opportunities for all students to participate, grow, and excel in athletics.
Compliance & Regulations: Ensure all athletic activities and events comply with North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) regulations, state laws, and school district policies.
Budget & Resources: Manage the athletic budget, allocate funds effectively, and ensure proper maintenance and utilization of athletic facilities and equipment.
Coaching Supervision: Oversee hiring, evaluation, and professional development of head coaches, assistant coaches, and other athletic staff; provide ongoing support and guidance for coaching staff to foster teamwork and high standards.
Scheduling & Coordination: Organize and coordinate schedules for all athletic events, practices, and transportation needs. Communicate regularly with coaches, parents, and students about schedules and changes.
Athlete Support & Safety: Monitor the academic and athletic progress of student‑athletes, ensuring they maintain eligibility and prioritize academics. Promote sportsmanship, integrity, and character development through athletic participation.
Public Relations & Communication: Serve as primary point of contact for media, parents, community members, and stakeholders regarding athletic programs. Organize events such as banquets and other publicity activities to celebrate student‑athletes and promote the school's achievements.
Facility Management: Ensure that athletic facilities are maintained and meet safety standards. Oversee scheduling and use of athletic facilities for both school and community events.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree and a North Carolina Teaching license.
Experience: Athletic administration, coaching, or related field experience or previous experience as an Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director.
Certifications: NFHS Learn course “After School Security” or NIAAA LTC 631: Emergency Management of Interscholastic Athletic Events (completed or willing to complete within 30 days of hire); First aid and CPR certification (willing to obtain).
Skills: Strong organizational and leadership abilities; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, parents, coaches, and school staff; knowledge of current trends in high school athletics and sports safety practices; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
