Job Description The Athletic Director (AD) plays a key role in supporting the college’s overall objectives, particularly in promoting student‑athlete academic excellence. As a memberPredicate of the college’s management team, the AD drives new initiatives and promotes the college’s values of equity and inclusion at all levels of the athletics department. The AD recruits, hires, and manages the administrative team, supervises coaches and support staff, and reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs.
Primary responsibilities include strategic planning, budgeting, campus and community relations, and collaboration with coaches on recruiting and retaining student‑athletes. The AD will also oversee athletic progress, eligibility records, data collection, speeches, and reporting.
Essential Duties
Execute all duties associated with athletic teams, including recruiting students, ensuring proper completion of paperwork, monitoring academic progress of athletes, ordering supplies and equipment, scheduling practices and games, and hosting parents and orientations.
Provide oversight for the use and operations of all athletic facilities.
Manage athletic‑facility rental contracts and serve overview as liaison for external clients.
Operate the athletic office to ensure quality service while adhering to college, divisional, and departmental policies and procedures.
Oversee compliance and maintenance of eligibility files for all student‑athletes, ensuring alignment with NJCAA eligibility, NCAA/NAIA transfer opportunities, and coordinating pre‑participation physicals and compliance paperwork.
Recruit student‑athletes and attend recruiting events with RVCC recruiters.
Manage and supervise all athletic employees, evaluate performance, and engage in professional development.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, institutional, and NJCAA rules and regulations, including Title IX, and coordinate with the institution’s Director of Title IX.
Monitor and oversee student‑athletes’ academic progress, study halls, and class attendance in coordination with administrative staff.
Direct all athletic external communications, newsletters, and publications through the website, social media, and live streaming to promote and expand the RV Athletic brand.
Develop relationships with high school coaches, guidance counselors, and athletic directors for recruiting and retention purposes.
Develop, propose, implement, and oversee a comprehensive fundraising development program for the athletics program.
Develop and implement strategies to improve conference and regional branding and recognition.
Promote community‑service engagement for athletic teams.
Collaborate with the Student Affairs Team and student leaders to engage the campus community, create a positive and enthusiastic environment, and increase attendance at home events to promote school pride.
Act as liaison between student‑athletes, RVCC faculty, and advising‑counseling services.
Serve as point of contact for prospective student‑athletes and for four‑year colleges assisting in transfers.
Engage and participate in the governance of the Garden State Athletic Conference and Region XIX of the NJCAA.
Oversee coordination of athletic trainers and referees for games.

Requirements
Master’s degree in physical education, athletic administration, or a related field.
Five or more years of experience in intercollegiate athletics with progressively responsible positions. Administrative experience in athletics, including budget management, development, staff supervision, compliance, and facilities management. Broad knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and the relationship between academics and athletics.
Broad knowledge of NJCAA and NCAA rules and regulations for game administration, eligibility, and the student‑athlete transfer process.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion through professional work, development, or service.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and proven leadership and administrative capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Five or more years of intercollegiate or professional head‑coaching experience.
Experience working within a community‑college athletics department.
Additional Information RVCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference. RVCC competes at the NJCAA DII or NJCAA DIII levels, offering scholarship programs in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Baseball, and Softball, and non‑scholarship programs in Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball and Golf.
